Such an arbitrary date to pick the signing of the Armistice between human and Zentraedi forces this was in Macross: Do You Remember Love? Surely back in 1983 there was no great significance about the date September 11. If we’re counting real years, this would have happened in 2009. However, DYRL isn’t part of the official timeline, as it presents a fictional re-telling of the events of Space War I.
The actual signing of the Armstice between the SDF-1 Macross and the Britai Adoclass Fleet would be on February 11. 2010 (ep 26), days after the wedding of human Maximilian Jenius and Meltran Millya Fallnya. I honestly prefer the TV series version of this event, but I admit DYRL gave us dramatic cheese of the highest order.
Captain Bruno Global declares the Armstice, presents the historical context and the genetic relationship between the Protoculture, Zentran, Meltran, and humans. The Zentran had just brought back Lynn Minmay from their captivity, who was able to find a song from the archives which the Zentran intend to use as a weapon against the Meltran. Minmay stated that the melody was in need of lyrics to become complete.
But then Misa Hayase and Hikaru Ichijo were also presented, both thought to be lost as well. And after being separated by light years, the triangle is reunited.
Armstice? The freaking spectacle of the reunion stole the show!
Nothing like this to remind us all that Macross is indeed a love triangle story set against a backdrop of great space battles. In my own way I commemorate the tragedy and heroics that transpired on September 11, 2001. Peace be with you all.

Ahhh, poor DYRL-Minmay.
I very much disliked SDF-Minmay but that was not the case in the movie. I sympathized with the girl because to me, she was just a victim of certain events. Besides that, she was oh-so lovable (ignoring the big-pre-DYRL-scene with Hikaru).
Oh well.
O-G Love!
P.S. Even still, Misa is the BOMB! :p
P.S. Liking or even preferring one doesn’t mean hating the other. Misa is the heroine of the show, and is awesome while being so.
Zer0-G love indeed. Cheers!
Regardless of how you felt it should have transpired at least it looked a helluva lot better in DYRL. I still chuckle inside at this point, as good an Armistice as Versailles in the case of the love triangle, I wonder how many people will remember that there was not as much significance of that date at the time, but now…
Maybe it will be a real Armistice Day in the future as Kawamori foretold but right now it was like he was trolling the future.
It’s a strange coincidence indeed, and yes it looked near-infinitely better in DYRL?
I need to get my schedule in order so I can actually work on the accurate continuity that blends both shows.
I remember that scene. I was gonna post a screen of it on /m/ on 9/11 for shits and giggles, but I don’t have access to my desktop’s hard drive right now, since some of the hardware is busted and I don’t have a proper enclosure for it.
Something’s discouraging you… maybe that’s not such a good idea after all.
Heh, I kinda don’t see even the Japanese otaku celebrating this particular date. ^^
Americans do. I got it from them.
although 9/11 doesn’t mean much to me but still my respect goes out to all that lost their lives while saving others..
anyway to DYRL , i always prefer minmay.. especially this song ,
the other song, a faster beat though not my all time favorite but on my occasional “I feel like listening to” is
gotta love youtube..
Yes, gotta love those songs. Tenshi no enogu is also my most favorite :3
